To have riders we've worked with before is so important to me and the technicians. Gary's better than the results showed last year and he wanted this second opportunity. Stuart needed no introduction and already had miles under his belt on the new Ninja World Superbike. Following his crash at the NW200 he had lots of work to do and will need plenty of support. It was a really difficult decision to make at such an exceptionally sensitive time and both ourselves and Alex feel terrible over the timing. That said Alex had no ride and when we approached him he was keen to try and ride the bike and continue the great development job that both Stuart and Gary have carried out.

Team Profile

The association between Kawasaki Motors UK and Nick Morgan, team principle of the MSS Kawasaki squad, stretches back many years. For a long time MSS concentrated on Supersport racing, having success with a number of their retained riders, and via countless customers of the revered tuning service offered by Morgan and his staff.

The highlight of their Supersport time was a series of magnificent rides by Spaniard Pere Riba. The ex-World Supersport rider achieved stunning race wins, first at Silverstone, and then at Donington, in 2005. To reinforce his status as one of the world's top riders, Riba also placed 4th on both UK wild card rides for MSS in World Supersport that same year.

Superbike racing beckoned though. Given the amount of 1000cc Kawasaki engines the Thorpe Le Soken, Essex, based team were building, it would surely only be a matter of time before they displayed ambitions in the big bike arena. Their chance came in 2007 in spectacular fashion. Elevated by Kawasaki Motors UK as their official Superbike team, Morgan acted quickly to sign Superbike stalwart, Michael Rutter.

Determined to "download" all of Rutter's considerable machine set up skills, the team worked hard to create the necessary environment to build a body of data and make up ground on more established teams. Rutter rode with his trademark guile and determination until an uncharacteristic accident at Snetterton injured his wrist only weeks before the Isle of Man.

Further damaging the wrist at the TT, the injured Rutter was replaced by Stuart Easton who was already riding the team's Ninja ZX-6R in Supersport. A complicated ankle injury during World Endurance testing for the young Scot meant that the Hawick rider was not able to show his true mettle on the Ninja ZX-10R. That said, the promise he showed was enough for him to be signed for 2008 alongside Australian Billy McConnell.

Early season confidence was high within the MSS Discovery camp for 2008 and initial signs were good. Consistent top ten results by both riders augured well. The sea of lime green team clothing being worn trackside testified as to how quickly MSS had come in less than two seasons in British Superbikes. Injury put paid to the fairy tale once more however, as Easton revisited Rutter's bogey track and had a major accident at Snetterton. While McConnell soldiered on, Easton tried, and ultimately failed, to regain his fitness in a championship known for its punishing schedule.

In 2009 it was an all new line-up for Morgan's team, with Simon Andrews and Julien Da Costa. Andrews had some impressive performances during his first season onboard the Kawasaki, taking his first podium finish at Cadwell Park and looked set for a maiden race win at Mallory Park but whilst leading the race he was taken out in the controversial Hairpin crash. Andrews missed a handful of races due to a broken wrist from a testing crash but still finished sixth overall. Da Costa ended the season just behind him in the standings, with a best result of fourth in race two at Cadwell Park.

Andrews remained with the team for a second season in 2010 and was joined by reigning BSB Cup champion Gary Mason. The team made further improvement in the season with the addition of the latest specification WSB 'state of the art' Magneti Marelli electronics package. Andrews was another rider to be hit with injury after crashing whilst racing for the WSB team in Valencia, whilst Mason just edged ahead of his team-mate in the overall standings.

The team signed Easton for 2011 who last raced with them two years ago with the Colchester-based squad boosted by the new Ninja ZX-10R ahead of the new season. Former BSB Cup champion Mason returns for a second consecutive season and is determined to move forward. Easton then suffered a high-speed crash at the North West 200 road race which ruled him out as he recovers from injury. The team then enlisted BSB prodigy Alex Lowes to deputise, starting from the fourth round at Thruxton.
