The Fuchs-Silkolene British Supersport Championship continues to lead the support class line-up and has become the place for manufacturers to go head-to head and upcoming talent to be discovered with Leon Camier, Cal Crutchlow and Tom Sykes all progressing from this class.
2010 champion Sam Lowes has made the step up to the world stage for next season so the field has been thrown wide open especially with the revolutionary introduction of a control MoTeC ECU for the 600cc class. The control ECU will remove traction control, launch control and anti-wheelie functions levelling the class for all competitors. The other major change for 2011 is that Supersport move to one single qualifying session with the addition of a sprint race on qualifying day which also forms the grid for the feature race.
The Relentless Suzuki team, who last won the title in 2007 with Michael Laverty, are making a return with the new GSX-R600 with former Superstock 1000 champion Alastair Seeley onboard. TAG Triumph has signed Billy McConnell to form part of there four rider team and Gearlink Kawasaki's Ben Wilson who was third in the championship last season hopes to go to the top step in 2011.
The Supersport Cup forms part of the Supersport races, allowing wildcard entries for the first time this year the cup is to encourage riders to have a go allowing them to use kit electronics rather than a requirement for the MoTec system, although Cup riders will not be eligible for championship points without the control unit.
Entrants in the Supersport class must be 16 years of age or over and, in principle, have a minimum of 2 years experience at National level.
