The Speedy Fastest Lap League is new for the 2011 MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship season and launches this weekend at Brands Hatch with riders scorching to the fastest lap of the race awarded for their performance.

The season-long league will award a point for each race to the rider that records the fastest lap with an extra point also up for grabs if the rider sets a new lap record with the competition running in both the BSB and Fuchs-Silkolene British Supersport Championship races this year.

In the opening race of the season Tommy Hill set the fastest lap with an impressive time of 45.674s on lap four to score the first point of the season for the Swan Yamaha team. In race two it was another fastest lap for Swan Yamaha as Michael Laverty bounced back from his earlier crash to score the final point of the day to join Hill on the leaderboard.

At Oulton Park defending champion Ryuichi Kiyonari and Jon Kirkham scored their first points of the season in the first and second races respectively. Meanwhile Ben Wilson added another point to extend his lead in the Fuchs-Silkolene British Supersport Championship and Alastair Seeley joined the leaderboard in race two.

Kirkham took his tally to two points at Croft after scoring his maiden BSB race win in the first race for the Samsung Crescent Racing team whilst Shane Byrne took his first point of the season on his way to victory in race two. In the Fuchs-Silkolene British Supersport Championship Steve Plater and Billy McConnell both added their names to the League after their podium finishes. 

Byrne became the first rider to double up on points at Thruxton in the BSB class when he set the fastest lap from the back row of the grid and then repeated it again in race two. In the Fuchs-Silkolene British Supersport Championship Seeley moved to the the joint lead with Wilson, whislt Jack Kennedy scored his first point of the season.

Hill doubled up on points at Knockhill on his way to two sensational race wins whilst Wilson scored again in the Fuchs-Silkolene British Supersport Championship as Sam Warren scored his first point of the season.  Wilson also picked up an extra point thanks to his lap record of 50.025s in race two.

At Snetterton Jon Kirkham and Byrne took points before Hill claimed the lone point in the single race at Oulton Park, which the Swan Yamaha rider followed up with two points at Brands Hatch before John Hopkins claimed his first point of the season in the third race.

Wilson and Seeley have continued to share the points from the Supersport class; Seeley took the double at Snetterton, before Wilson pulled it back with a single point at Oulton Park. At Brands Hatch the pair took a point apiece to remain equal in the standings. 

At Cadwell Park Hill took a double point score for Swan Yamaha with Laverty taking the third point to give the team a clean sweep. Meanwhile Seeley and Wilson again took a point each as they continued their season long battle.

As BSB returned to Donington Park there were lap records in both classes as Laverty and Hopkins scored two points whilst Seeley took an impressive four points from the weekend.

Josh Brookes then scored his first points of the season at Silverstone with the Relentless Suzuki rider claiming a point in each race whilst Warren and Paul Young took the spoils in the Supersport class.

At the final round Brookes again moved up the leadr board by scoring three points with Byrne taking the final one, to secure second place behind Hill in the standings. In Supersport Seeley took three points with Christian Iddon claiming his first points of the season as the Relentless Suzuki team wrapped up their season finishing at the top of the leader board.
