Pre-season thoughts on 2009: "I have known Paul (Denning) for a few years now and I have been living in the UK for about five years. I have been following BSB so I know about the championship and have watched the races on TV and I think it is very strong. When I spoke to Paul about 2009 I knew I was going to move from MotoGP to another championship and that they were looking for a new rider. It is a great opportunity for me to join Crescent and Suzuki; they are a professional team and will work hard with me to win and be the best in BSB. The team has strong links with the factory, they have won in BSB before and it is a new challenge for me, that is what attracted me to join them."
