Scotland v England Pro-Am Challenge set for Knockhill

The MCE British Superbike Championship heads to Knockhill next month (June 16/17/18) and the support class line up has been expanded further as organisers wind the clock back to the halcyon days of the Yamaha RD Pro-Am Championship.

The legendary series was a staple in most national events going back into the early 1980s, with many races being broadcast live on ITV and making household names of many of the stars of the show which pitched seasoned professionals against raw rookies.

Now the battle is set to be resurrected with the Anglo Scottish Pro-Am Challenge at Knockhill over 12 laps featuring a team of eight Scottish riders up against eight of their English counterparts on identical Yamaha RD250LCs.

Whilst the English contingent is a closely guarded secret, the Scottish team is managed by triple British Superbike champion and ex-500cc GP racer Niall Mackenzie who has assembled a who’s who of Scottish success.

The line up includes Brian Morrison (TT winner and World Endurance champion), Iain MacPherson (Scottish champion and BSB race winner), John Crawford (Double British Supersport champion), Donny McLeod (ex 250/350cc GP rider), Stuart Easton (Double British Supersport champion and Macau GP winner), Iain Duffus (TT winner and British Production champion), Joe Toner (Marlboro Clubmans winner) and Sandy Christie (Scottish champion).

Knockhill Director of Events Stuart Gray said: “We are simply thrilled and excited to be hosting the Anglo Scottish Pro-Am. The line-up of riders in both teams is simply legendary and to see many of these riders come out of retirement to take part really does show the level of interest from both sport and the fans.

“Regardless of the result and which team wins, each and every rider has the pedigree of a champion and deserves and accolades and cheers from the crowd. Good luck to all the riders, have fun, and let the action begin!”
