O’Halloran positive after opening tests in Spain with new McAMS Yamaha

Jason O'Halloran is gearing up for the forthcoming Bennetts British Superbike Championship season, admitting that he had changed his strategy in testing as the McAMS Yamaha team debuted the 2020 R1.

O’Halloran utilised the opening tests in Spain to adapt to the new 2020 specification McAMS Yamaha, admitting that he focused on his own riding style and development, rather than on a time attack as he has done in previous seasons.

O’Halloran said: “Everything went cool at the test; this year I just used it a little bit different to previous years and worked a little bit more on my riding style and things that were changing in testing to see how things did and didn’t work. To be honest I came away feeling quite positive and I know the timesheets didn’t look amazing, but we looked amazing on them last year and didn’t really get anything for it, so that wasn’t my focus this year. It was about getting comfortable and coming back to the UK with what we needed for racing.

“The new Yamaha is really good and I love the new R1; it has plenty of positives over the old bike and I can’t wait to get to work at Silverstone for the next test to see where we end up. I am excited about the new year, the new season and feel like we are in a strong place so I am looking forward to the first race.”
