Bridewell reclaims leading position on opening day in Jerez

Tommy Bridewell and the Oxford Racing Ducati team ended the opening day of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship Official Test at Jerez at the top of the times after snatching the advantage by just 0.071s from Josh Brookes in the final five minutes of the day.

As conditions improved throughout the afternoon so did the times and at lunchtime Bridewell had set the target. However when it came to the penultimate session of the day Brookes was upping the pace again to fire himself back ahead of the pack, before he sat out the final session of the day as Michael Dunlop jumped onboard the VisionTrack Ducati.

Brookes was holding the advantage on the combined times, but Bridewell was ready for one final run at the end of the day which edged him marginally ahead as Tarran Mackenzie also ended the afternoon feeling positive. The McAMS Yamaha rider had been climbing the times, sitting at the top earlier in the final session, before holding third place at the end of the opening day.

The Rich Energy OMG Racing BMW team locked out the next two positions to complete the top five with Luke Mossey narrowly holding off his Spanish teammate Héctor Barberá for fourth place ahead of tomorrow’s final four sessions in Spain.

Peter Hickman was also on the move; gaining on his rivals on the Smiths Racing BMW to push ahead of Christian Iddon on the second of the VisionTrack Ducatis, who had topped the opening session, which had been initially hampered by a damp but drying track.

Reigning Supersport champion Jack Kennedy held eighth place, formation flying into the top ten with his Santander Salt TAG Yamaha teammate Dan Linfoot as Ryan Vickers completed the leading ten riders on the combined timesheets.
