Brookes holds off title rivals to top Jerez test ahead of Silverstone return

Josh Brookes topped the final Bennetts British Superbike Championship Official Test in Spain, firing the VisionTrack Ducati to the top of the combined times on the final day at Jerez ahead of Tommy Bridewell and Hector Barbera.

The final day on track started on a damp track with Barbera one of the handful of riders to head out for the first session to set the pace, but the conditions improved throughout the day and the pace intensified throughout the afternoon.

In the first session after lunch, Brookes and Bridewell were separated by just 0.122s with Barbera in close contention and the trio continued to lock out the leading positions in the closing stages of the day. The session was red flagged with less than five minutes remaining when Dan Linfoot crashed out.

Tarran Mackenzie had a strong final day on track at Jerez for McAMS Yamaha, running inside the top five and holding fourth place on the timesheets at the chequered flag at the end of the day to nudge Danny Buchan and the Massingberd-Mundy Kawasaki team into fifth place.

Ryan Vickers had been running inside the top three earlier in the penultimate session, but a crash ended his test prematurely, however he was able to hold a position inside the top six on the combined times.

Lee Jackson had been working his way up the order on the second of the Massingberd-Mundy Kawasakis, positing the sixth fastest time to hold off Joe Francis with Christian Iddon and Jason O'Halloran completing the top ten.

The next Official Test takes place at Silverstone on April 2.
