Irwin holds the edge as Oulton Park beckons this Bank Holiday weekend

02 May 2024

Glenn Irwin maintained his position at the top of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship testing times at Oulton Park as his pace-setting lap from yesterday kept the Hager PBM Ducati rider at the top of the R&G Official Test times by 0.138s from Kyle Ryde.

Irwin continued to lead both sessions on day two, although his best lap of the day was 0.057s adrift of his benchmark lap time from yesterday afternoon. That time gave him the marginal edge over OMG GRILLA Yamaha Racing teammates Ryde and Ryan Vickers, who also both set their fastest lap of the test on day one.

Reigning champion Tommy Bridewell moved up the order into fourth place overall, just 0.089s behind Vickers ahead of him with Jason O'Halloran also closing in to be just 0.008s adrift of his Honda Racing UK rival.

Leon Haslam had been also moving up the order, ending the test in sixth place for the ROKiT Haslam Racing BMW Motorrad team, making it five different manufacturers to feature inside the top six positions ahead of this weekend’s second round.

Christian Iddon improved his pace in the final session to post the seventh fastest lap of the test, just ahead of the FHO Racing BMW Motorrad Team pairing of Josh Brookes and Peter Hickman who were inseparable after posting the same lap time. Hickman had bounced back from a crash earlier in the day to complete the final session.

Danny Kent completed the top ten riders for the McAMS Racing Yamaha team ahead of the McAMS Round of the Championship this weekend in Cheshire.
